Fight Fit

OKCDT is proud to announce our new “Fight Fit” strength and conditioning program. The “Fight Fit” class will focus on developing core strength and cardiovascular conditioning, and incorporates various drills and exercises. The goal of this class is to not only help our members become more competitive and better athletes, but to encourage and promote regular exercise as a lifestyle, in order to help cope with the physical and emotional challenges of life. Countless studies have shown the physical benefits of exercise. Participants who are active will:

o Have stronger muscles and bones
o Have greater muscle to fat ratio, which helps control metabolism and keeps body composition in a healthy range
o Be less likely to become overweight
o Decrease the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes
o Possibly lower blood pressure and decrease LDL (bad cholesterol) while increasing HDL (good cholesterol) and strengthening the immune system

In addition to the physical benefits, exercise triggers chemical changes in the brain that can have a powerful and positive effect on mental health, such as:

o Improved self-esteem and greater sense of self-reliance and self-confidence
o Improved mental alertness, perception and information processing
o Increased perceptions of acceptance by others
o Decreased overall feelings of stress and tension
o Reduced frustration with daily problems, and a more constructive response to disappointments and failures

At OKCDT, we are committed to helping those that are willing to help themselves by promoting good use of mind and body, and mutual welfare and benefit, to develop positive, productive members of society.

“ Don’t think about what to do after you become strong — I have repeatedly stressed that the ultimate goal of Judo is to perfect the self, and to make a contribution to society. In the old days, Jūjutsu practitioners focused their efforts on becoming strong, and did not give too much consideration to how they could put that strength to use. Similarly, Judo practitioners of today do not make sufficient efforts to understand the ultimate objective of Judo. Too much emphasis is placed on the process rather than the objective, and many only desire to become strong and be able to defeat their opponents. Of course, I am not negating the importance of wanting to become strong or skilled. However, it must be remembered that this is just part of the process for a greater objective… The worth of all people is dependent on how they spend their life making contributions. ”
