Throwing Contest

Jan 06, 2010 4 Comments by admin

Everyone be sure to get your throwing contest form by clicking here or at judo this week.  How it works:

  • Print a form or get one from judo
  • seek donors to sponsor you.  You will see how many throws you can throw in one minute.  If you get $1 per throw, and throw 10 throws in one minute, then the sponsor would dontate $10.
  • The week of January 12th, we will end class with the contest on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
  • The kids with the most throws will be awarded and listed online.
  • collect money from the donors to be used for the Michael and Rachel Deutsch fund, and the 2010 Junior US Nationals.

All donations are tax deductible.

Rachel, Mikey & I appreciate everyone’s support for this throwing contest. We are heartbroken to lose their Dad, Steve Deutsch, at his young age (51) and theirs (14 & 8). Steve was a tireless fighter for law enforcement & justice for crime victims for 25 years in the courtroom as a prosecutor. He was a big supporter of judo doing it himself for a few years & getting Rachel inyo it when she was 6 & she competed for 4 years winning gold at the state tournament & then starting Mikey at 4 1/2 & he’s motivated to keep competing for the love of the sport & for his Dad. Steve loved our kids intensely & always said that they “must be good at pen & sword.” Thank you for supporting their Support Trust for their college expenses.

Liz, Rachel and Mikey-I am so sorry for your loss. Your husband and father was a true hero to me, and I will always remember him, what he stood for, and his steadfast love for his family. I am very grateful to have known him and honored to have worked with him. He was a great man, and has laid the foundation for you to do great things.

While I didn’t get the chance to know Steve personally, the void that he has left is a testament to the man he was. It is an honor and privilege to coach kids like Mikey, who have the true warrior spirit, and respond to adversity in a positive way. Liz, Rachel and Mikey-always know that we at OKCDT are here to support you in any way we can.
